Melvin Roy Cardwell age 82 of Dodson died Sunday, May 26, 2013 in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Dodson Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Al Mixon, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Dodson Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were , Justin Cardwell, Cade Klink, Brodie Klink, Tom Hames, Hayes Hurst, Tommy Hightower, John Hightower, and Jon Beanland.

Melvin was born on September 30, 1930 in Sayre, OK to William and Elizabeth Willingham Cardwell. He graduated from Pottsboro High School, attained his BS Degree from North Texas University and received his Masters Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

He married Wanda Hightower on January 30, 1959 in Amarillo.

He taught business classes in Pampa, moved to Wellington in 1974 as the high school principal and later became the elementary principal. In 1990 he became the principal for the Reydon, OK schools. He retired in 2000 and continued farming and ranching.

Melvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Cardwell of Dodson his son Roy Cardwell of Oilton, OK a daughter Renessa Klink and her husband Mark of Dodson 2 sisters Nelladean Greene of Grapevine and Mary Frances Gravette of Whitesboro 10 grandchildren Jessica Murphy and Dillon, Daniel Cardwell and Amanda, Stefanie Casey and Vince, Justin Cardwell, Kadie Cardwell, Brian Cardwell, Gage Cardwell, Cade Klink, Brodie Klink, and Mikala Klink and 5 great grandchildren Presley Murphy, Israel and Drake Casey, and Journey and Dooley Cardwell.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Melvin Cardwell Memorial Scholarship, 606 15th St, Wellington, TX. 79095.
